Hello, -- I want to share a strange tip that came to me for wellness that I have found easy and effective. My intention with this is not to scientifically address or prove its' validity, as I have seen support for and against the idea on the internet. But out of curiosity I tried this myself and have since used it many times to prevent, shorten, stop the spread of illness in my household.
There is an old wives tale that you can use raw onions to promote wellness. There are two ways that I have heard of and personally tried this at the same time:
1. Remove skin of onion. Cut into chunks and leave around the house, especially by bedside a person with a cold or flu. The idea is that the onion absorbs airborne germs that could infect others or reinfect an already compromised person. Be aware to not leave the onions in a place where children or pets can eat them after they have been sitting out for a while.
2. Slice small sections of onion and place into socked feet of person who has cold or flu or who feels one coming on or who is sharing space with someone already sick. Again be mindful of discarding onions pieces in a way that pets or kids can't eat them as the idea is that they are soaking up illness. Cover as much surface area on the bottoms of the feet as possible.
I am always looking for ways that can be accessible to as many people as possible to create empowerment on all levels. Maintaining physical wellness is an important part of living an empowered life. Feeling like we can't interact in the world for work or play with people or are sick, and then feeling angry and victimized when we 'catch' something from someone else, doesn't feel good or promote accountability. Making ourselves as impervious as possible to outer mischief feels GREAT and helps us serve as a role model for others seeking such experiences.
Some other tips I have noticed that make a big difference for preventing colds and eradicating the experience of problems from seasonal allergies are:
1 THE REGULAR USE OF A
NETTI POT
- especially if you feel an illness coming on.
2. THE STRICT
AVOIDANCE OF GLUTENS. After I was gluten-free for 14 months, I noticed that I didn't have any negative responses to the Juniper blooms that used to take me down and still take so many people in my town out of commission twice a year for several weeks at a time. Chronic inflammation from eating glutens and other foods (such as dairy and other grains) can leave one open to the slightest outer provocation causing a major inner assault.
I hope you find these tips as helpful as I have.
