What the HECK is a TRANSIT?!

You may be familiar with this term but if you have been hearing it used in astrological reports and weren't sure exactly what it means, I will help!

A transit is a movement of one the stars. Planets move through a SIGN in the SKY or through a HOUSE in a CHART, and each motion brings potential opportunities and challenges.

These transits can have a significant impact on your life, influencing your emotions, relationships, career, and overall sense of well-being. By understanding and tracking these transits, you can gain valuable insight into the energies at play in your life and make informed decisions about how to navigate them.

Transits can help you understand the current astrological climate and how it may be affecting you personally. Transits can be short-term or long-term, depending on the length of the planets' orbit. The Sun takes around 365 days to go around its' orbit, while Pluto can take almost 250 years!  It takes the Sun about a month to move through one house in a chart, but Pluto can be there around 20 years!

A "house" is a field of experience that we have as humans and when that house is lit up by a planetary transit, it comes ALIVE and we see more activity in that area of life. For example, when the Sun "transits" or moves through the 3rd house of Gemini, it tends to bring BUSYNESS, spinning around all over the place, an extra abundance of social interactions and opportunities, increased or notable interactions with relatives (like cousins, aunts, uncles, etc.), and a focus on devices that are used for communication or mobility. We also see these effects when the Sun transits through the SIGN of Gemini (as it is now).

Now if PLUTO were moving through your 3rd house, you could have anywhere from 12-20 YEARS of those energies being supercharged!

So in general, "inner planets", the ones closest to us (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars) move quickly through houses, like days, weeks, or months. The "outer planets", Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, move slowly - 12 - 20 years or more.

(and yes, in case you were wondering, it was NOT an error that I listed the Moon as a "planet". In astrology, astrologers tend to refer to relevant stars in transit as "planets", even if it is the Moon, an asteroid, or officially a "dwarf planet", instead of a full-fledged one (don't get me started on this, lol, in astrology, it doesn't matter what astronomers classify it as!)

Knowing the range of potential expression (from highest to lowest) of each planet and how long it will be in a certain house, or "field of experience", can equip you to get the lessons, understand the challenges, and make the most of the potentials. It also can help you make sense of WHY something is happening and for how long these themes might be present. Sometimes just knowing this information can help bring peace because it explains the mystery.

Some ways you can learn about the how the transits are affecting you include:

• Online horoscopes (videos, podcasts, blogs)
• Search for how to run a free birth with transit chart, then try to follow the planets yourself
• Learn about each planet and what it represents, then apply that to the location of each planet (once you get clear on what planet is in what sign in the sky, and house in your chart)
• Apps, courses, personalized reports

Overall, tracking the transit of each planet through your personal chart will tell you  the short and long-term stories that will profoundly influence your life.
