May 2023 Astrology ~ SCORPIO LUNAR ECLIPSE, JUPITER CHANGES SIGNS + More …

Here are some top points to know about the May 2023 Astrology. See my May 2023 Horoscope Videos/Podcasts  for more details and also in the date specific notes towards the end of this written report:

1. Another month of more sweet aspects compared to salty ones. Harmonious bursts are present all throughout the month and there are many extra sweet connections (some of which I will go into later this in this report).

2. We are in the FULL ON heat of ECLIPSE SEASON! While we can always have movement along the situations that have been activated during the cycle of eclipses, the closer we get to the actual eclipses (April 20 and May 5), the more news, activity, stress, drama, and radical changes that the eclipses tend to bring. Four to six weeks BEFORE the eclipses start, begins eclipse “season” and now we are right in it! 

April 20 brings a Black Moon Solar Eclipse in Aries at 29° - The first of the Aries/Libra eclipse cycle that will go from now through most of 2025. This eclipse starts a BRAND NEW CYCLE OF MAJOR INITIATION and major focus on Me vs. We. Themes will begin now that can put us on a path to greater empowerment, independence, zesty self-expression, bold leadership, vibrant wellness, deepened self-esteem, and bountiful fresh options for new experiences.

This month we have a Lunar Eclipse at 14° in Scorpio on May 5. The Taurus/Scorpio eclipse polarity which is also a Me vs. We polarity and also includes My Stuff vs. Our Stuff (material, karmic, emotional, financial, etc.) This eclipse cycle goes through the end of 2023. The last times we had Taurus/Scorpio eclipse cycles were late 2012 through late 2014 and late 2002 through early 2005. Reflection upon themes that were occurring in your life then may give some insight into the cycle occurring now.

Fullness, completion, accomplishment, and/or drama comes to a shared financial situation or complex relationship (like family or business).

3. Strong Retrograde Month - Mercury went into retrograde on  April 21st         and although it will officially go direct May 14, it will take until May 30 to complete its post-transit shadow period and regain its direct footing. The first half of the month will be characterized by changes to plans, uncertainty, and last-minute magic. These themes will be strong all month but will start to shift mid-month. Every day we progress after May 14th can bring more clarity and an easier time with future planning. We will have a short window free from personal planet retrogrades and their shadow periods in June until Venus pre-retro shadow period begins (more on that in next months report or you can search for “Annie Botticelli Venus Retrograde” in an online search to find my resources on this transit.

In general, Mercury retrograde tends to bring our focus to the present moment (often making it harder to see beyond this time for planning), attend to things in our close personal space, go back over things, editing, re-doing, connecting with friends and family or other contacts from the past, breathing new life into old endeavors, social interactions, travel, and my personal retrograde favorite, last-minute magic.

4. Jupiter changes signs! Jupiter moves into Taurus around May 16th to stay until the end of May 2024. In this placement, look for new opportunities to shore up your financial picture, acquire important material items, live more sustainably, have opportunities to return to nature and the natural rhythms (like the flow of rising with the Sun and putting down devices after sundown).

5. Strong Taurus energies from the Sun, Mercury, and Jupiter bring practicality and a focus on the small details that will bring about the big goal accomplishment. Persistence and dedication may be easier to access now making big jobs able to be busted out in less time. 

6. Strong Gemini energies from the Sun, Mercury, and Venus transits. As the Sun and Mercury switch over from Taurus to Gemini, the travel bug may start to bite big-time! Desire for movement and new and interesting experiences is more likely. Social connections and general busy-ness - driving around all over the place doing lots of things - are all more common with Gemini transits. Scatteredness and interest in diverse ranges of things (I like to call “getting your fingers in a lot of pudding pies”) is also common at this time. Guard your nervous system and respiratory systems even more at this time.

6. Venus & Mars in Cancer bring double focus to emotions, home, family, and housing. Mars isn’t super comfortable in this water sign and that awkwardness is noticeable. Mars can bring obsessiveness into these Cancer-related domains. Venus can bring harmony, blessings, and financial topics to home and family discussions. Suppressed and repressed emotions, family issues, genetic or ancestral topics may abound now. It can also be a great time to clear up unfinished business around the house, repairs, etc.

7. Mars moves into Leo on May 21 bringing creative self-expression back into the forefront. Creative projects can blossom beautifully under the watchful (even obsessive) eye of Mars. Romance, dating, and “True Love” are also the domain of Leo and love, especially from the past, may flourish. All topics involving children receive extra vibrance right now. Putting energy into hobbies and creation for creation sake is a great way to use this boost.

Sweet boosts are more likely on or around these days: 4-5, 12, 13, 15, 18-19, 20, 21, 22, and 26.

Drama or stress are more likely in the days around: 4, 7, 17, 20, 22, 23, 24, and 28.

Notable neutral aspects that could go either way or both (sweet and/or salty): 1, 9, and 14.

MY TOP FAVE ASPECTS OF MAY 2023:

May 4 — Venus in Gemini Sextile Jupiter in Aries — This is an aspect of positive “opportunities” combining the energetic potentials of expansion, growth, luck, love, money, and self-confidence. The transit can bring general harmonious sweet vibes and fun social interactions, too, or a chance for a quick trip or exciting outing.

May 13 — Venus in Cancer Trine Saturn in Pisces — Sweet potentials are more likely to show up in matters of the heart/important emotional connections with those important to you. Housing/home/real estate matters also have more of a chance of receiving blessings. Intuition and synchronicity can play key roles at this time. Dreams can take on tangible meaning that guide you to wonderful outcomes. Blessings with some link to the past can also show up in a magical way.

May 12 — Mercury in Taurus Sextile Saturn in Pisces — Good news or acknowledgment can come from this connection. Word that something you were trying for has come through or support from someone whose help can make a big difference for your project or your life.

May 15 — Mars in Cancer Trine Neptune in Pisces — Dreamy vibrations connecting intuition to action show up big time right now. Someones kind words can help you or you may show up for someone this way. This is not a time for force, it is a time for easy flow. Anything that is too stressful or not working out can be smoothly redirected in an easier way.

May 26 — Venus in Cancer Sextile Uranus in Taurus — Magic from out-of-the-blue is more likely now! Home and family can play a big part or be the areas blessed by the surprise happy vibes. If you have a great idea right now, write it down! Insights may be fleeting but information coming through now can turn into something very major and long-term if you can capture them and convert them from ideas to realities.

Top Aspects to Be Extra Careful & Awareful:

May 4 — Venus in Gemini Square Neptune in Pisces — Confusion, vacillation, deception, security issues, are all ways this transit tends to manifest. If you are unclear about something or have a “feeling” that seems different than how things appear, go with your gut. If you really feel like someone is lying to you or keeping information from you, they really may be, but the situation may have more to it than is showing up now. If you are unsure about something, it may be better to wait to act until you have more information. Incomplete pictures are more likely at this time and if you act on what comes up, it may be in error.

May 17 — Jupiter in Taurus Square Pluto in Aquarius — MAJOR OUTER ASPECT ALERT! These aspects between outer planets are more rare and powerful than most of the aspects we talk about that happen more regularly. Tangible clashes with theoretical in ways that make egos flare. Expansion is put in check by those with power, and they may or may not being using their power fairly. Still trust that if someone is being unreasonable and not letting you move forward with something that you are working on, that you may be being protected in this venture and that the forces of good are helping you through this seemingly bad person or situation. Since the retrograde and eclipse energies are also still flaring strongly, the topic at hand may have multiple layers and a complexity that transcends this transit alone. The influence of this transit is weeks BEFORE and AFTER the actual transit, not just the days around now.

May 20 — Mars in Leo Opposing Pluto in Aquarius — A battle of wills is more likely at this time and the energies present can manifest from an annoying fight that blows over quickly, to a downright dangerous situation. Trust your instincts and try to avoid antagonizing someone who is already on edge. Be extra careful driving and in other ways interacting with others since many people will be extra edgy in the week or so before and after this aspect.

Notable Neutral Aspects which Could Go Either Way:

May 5 —  Lunar Eclipse/Full Moon in Scorpio at 14° — Fullness, completion, fruition, drama, accomplishment, and likely major trajectory shifts come in the arena of shared financial resources or “other peoples money”. A dramatic ending could occur in relationships or a chapter of relationships. Something great like paying off a major debt and having the freedom that comes along with it or having to say an unwelcome goodbye to something or someone that. The influence of this eclipse series began at the end of 2021 and the full cycle completes at the end of 2023. This is the second to last part of the cycle at play with the Taurus/Scorpio eclipse cycle. Money and relationships are getting shuffled around as karmic debts are being paid, and new cycle of experience are opening up.

May 9 — Sun and Uranus Conjunct in Taurus — Surprises come from this aspect, ranging from jolting and unwelcome shocks, to Divine inspiration that magically changes your situation for the better in an instant. Either way, be prepared to have things shaken up!

May 14 — Mercury goes direct (and post-shadow transit stretches until May 30) — (to see my full 2023 direct/retrograde planning calendar join my exclusive content portal at this link.)

The shadow period for this transit began April 7 and every day up until April 27 the energies go deeper into the typical retro space. For the whole time of the transit, expect changes in plans, things that seemed solid to be tested, difficulty planning short and long term things, confusion, doubt, old patterns (for better and worse), things from the past returning to be dealt with, machinery going haywire, and a notable increase in communication issues - from device problems to miscommunications with others. Retrogrades can also bring blessings from the past and leaving yourself as unscheduled as possible can leave room for another retrograde possibility - last-minute magic :)

Every day we move on from the days around May 14, the energies start to clear up and open into a time marked with more clarity and an easier time seeing further ahead. Things tend to go a little more haywire from the perspective of communication, planning, transportation, devices, appliances, etc., in the several days that follow Mercury going direct as the energies regulate from backward to forward motion. 

Imagine you have been stalled out in an intersection (Mercury retrograde) and the days right after Mercury goes direct is like the awkwardness of trying to get back into fast-moving traffic from a stopped position. Then the time from direct movement until the end of the post-shadow retro period (through May 30), is like you getting back up to speed and back in a good flow with the moving objects around you.

May 19 —  New Moon at 28° of Taurus — New beginnings come to the Taurus domains of security, financial autonomy, sustainability, financial awareness, tangible creations, dependability, hard work, comfort, and sensual pleasures.
